Our lodge is perfectly positioned to take advantage of not just the beautiful trophy class Naknek River, but all of the remote and rarely touched pristine waters of our area. Adventure into the wilds of Alaska’s Katmai National Park and the Bristol Bay areas only accessible by float plane. Flights are generally short and get you to remote wilderness to enjoy secluded fishing, or wildlife viewing. You can fly-out daily (weather permitting) to a different location and fish for a plethora of species, or just enjoy the wildlife and photography opportunities. All in one day, depending on the time in the season, you can catch: King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silver Salmon, Chum, and Pink Salmon; Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char, lake trout, and Northern Pike….Or see the majestic brown bear, caribou, moose, or the occasional wolf in their natural wilderness habitat.
It is not uncommon to catch 30 plus fish in a day depending on the area. Whether fly fishing is your specialty or you are a conventional gear angler, we will customize our fishing, or wildlife viewing program to suit you. We will pair you with an expert guide to suit your wishes. Your guide is here to help you and will educate you on the waters/areas that you will be fishing or exploring. Our lodge welcomes all types of angling abilities as well as those new to the sport of fishing who would like to come to us as a novice and leave as an expert angler. You may also choose to fly-out for beach combing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.
If you are an avid angler/outdoorsmen, you most likely have your own gear and will be most comfortable with what you are familiar with. Whether you are a fly fisherman, a conventional gear fisherman, or both, we at Gold Creek Lodge are happy to provide quality gear and equipment for those who need it. We will send you a packing list upon receiving your reservation and will consult with you prior to your arrival to reserve the proper equipment for you to use during your stay. All aircraft and jet boats that we operate are top of the line to insure your comfort and safety.

ATV on old trapper trails through the Alaska tundra in top of the line custom Can Am Commanders to the most beautiful untouched waters. Fly fish or spin cast for salmon, grayling, arctic char, dolly varden and beautiful trophy rainbow trout. As with all of our adventures offered, the wildlife in this area is abundant. It is not uncommon to see bear and moose along the trail and even river otters along the banks. The birding in this area is also phenomenal! Giant bald eagles are commonly fishing right along side of you.
We have a few different options for Kayak float trips. Our favorite is a float that starts in the crystal clear headwaters of the Naknek River in Katmai National Park and ends down river at the Gold Creek Lodge dock. This is a gentle current float trip with few rapids and affords you with abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. This float is self guided and is safe for all ability levels. You can fish along the way or just enjoy the peaceful ride. This is an all day adventure.
Hiking in Katmai
With our lodge perfectly positioned at the doorstep of Katmai National Park, the hiking options are endless. Accessible only by float plane, there are day and multi day hikes for all ability levels. There is no other place on earth, or at least in North America, in our opinion, that can offer you a National Park with the remoteness and solitude that Katmai National Park provides. You will not find this place full of tourists; you WILL find this place full of natural wildlife including the Alaskan coastal brown bear, which is common to see along the trail. The peacefulness and the serenity of this park will take your breath away, It will be an experience hard to put into words.
For this adventure, we pair you up with one of the top wildlife photographer/cinematographers in the industry, who also happens to be an expert fishing guide with 30 years of experience!
Get pointers, tips, and tricks to make your own photos and film spectacular. Spend the day exploring, photographing, filming, and fishing (if you wish) in the wilds of Katmai National Park and the Bristol Bay region. Groups from two to four can be accommodated. You will need to bring your own camera for this photo safari.

Tour The Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes
The Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes offers a chance to explore a landscape created by the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. The beauty, scale, wildness, and mystery of the Valley make it one of the best places in the world to study the violence of volcanic eruptions and experience the raw power of nature.
You will arrive by float plane and be taken by bus and tour guide. The 23 mile drive to Overlook Cabin is broken up with stops for scenic views and wildlife viewing. At Overlook Cabin you’ll have time for lunch and to look over displays and historic photos of the “Valley of 10,000 Smokes.” Those interested may hike down with the tour guide to examine the ash and pumice “Valley” floor. The hike is a bit strenuous. We recommend that you dress in layers so you can layer on or off as exercise and the weather dictate. A raincoat and comfortable walking shoes are a must.
Enjoy a day of hiking, intoxicating tundra scents, beautiful remote beaches, and a picnic lunch on a cliff over looking a phenomenal Walrus haul out. Traipse down to the beach for a stroll along the waters edge to look for washed up treasures. This excursion is adventurous and perfect for the explorer at heart!
Walrus viewing and beach combing at remote Cape Greig, only Accessible by plane or helicopter, can be added to any package at additional cost. This is a must add to the ultimate Alaskan adventure.
No trip to Alaska would be complete without a day on the water fishing for Salmon. The Naknek river boasts runs of 5 species of salmon, as well as opportunities for Trophy Rainbow Trout, grayling, and more! Fishing not your thing? Spend the day exploring the Naknek River by boat. There are ample opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing!
